Local businesses save Bermondsey Street Festival

The Bermondsey Street Festival is an annual celebration of the vibrant community spirit and independent businesses that make this charming street so special. What began as a small local event has grown into one of London’s most exciting street festivals, attracting visitors from far and wide.

After the original organiser Bill Owen has taken a step back, Gena Johns, Gallery Director from London Glassblowing voluntarily took over as the lead organiser with support from George Cobb, Managing Director of Daniel Cobb Estate Agents.  They are also working with a volunteer committee of local business owners and residents. Their goal is to preserve this beloved tradition and showcase the creativity, talent, and resilience of Bermondsey Street.

For the businesses and artisans on the street, the festival is an invaluable opportunity to connect with the community, generate economic vitality, and celebrate the area’s unique character. “The possibility of losing such an iconic Bermondsey tradition would have a huge impact,” says Gena Johns.

With funding from Southwark Council and support from local businesses and stallholders, the 2024 festival promises to continue the legacy. Expect a lively mix of food stalls, artisan crafts, and offerings from Bermondsey Street’s independent shops and restaurants.

Gena and George are honoured to play a part in preserving this cherished tradition, rallying support and sponsors to ensure the Bermondsey Street Festival continues delighting locals and visitors for years to come.
